Albumin / Microalbuminuria
High concentration of albumin in serum is one indicator of dehydration. In case of chronic infection, inflammation, cancer, pregnancy or malabsorption, its concentration decreases. Nephropathy is one of the common complications of diabetes, and it is internationally recommended that diabetics should be monitored for incipient nephropathy. Since microalbuminuria is suggestive of incipient nephropathy diabetics should have urinary albumin (U-ALB) measurements several times a year.
