Candidiasis

Candidiasis is a mycosis caused by yeasts of the Candida genus. Infections can be superficial, affecting the skin and mucous membranes, or deep (systemic or invasive candidiasis). As regards epidemiology, Candida albicans is considered to be the most frequently encountered species whatever the infection location. Candida glabrata ranks second. Candida dubliniensis is a recently discovered species, close to C. albicans. C. krusei is resistant to antifungal azole derivatives.
