Schistosomiasis
Schistosomiasis (or bilharzia) is rife in tropical areas. It is a parasitic infection caused by a skin-penetrating flat worm (Trematode) of the genus Schistosoma. It is possible to distinguish several types of schistosomiasis caused by different species of Schistosoma : S. mansoni, S. haematobium, S. japonicum, S. intercalum, S. mekongi.
